Indigent students from Laoag City around Ilocos Norte can continue with their education via a scholarship program of its local chief executive and
private citizens.
A "Iskolar ni MVF" scholarship program came from school year 2004-2005, where Mayor Michael V,New Lebron X. Farinas, Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) President Chevylle Farinas, by making use of private donors,Lebron X, shoulder the education expenses of students.
This year, 5,861 students were sent to 33 elementary schools and your five high schools in Laoag Metropolis and several colleges in Ilocos Norte,
Baguio, in addition to Manila. They are apart from the city college students funded by the local government.
In the speech during the awarding awarding of Iskolar ni MVF at the metropolis hall auditorium on July 31, Farinas said this is a method to empower
the children and the men and women of the city.
I believe inside saying that your reputation comes before you. And the reputation of Laoag comes before all of us. That is why we would like to allow
our children by giving them excellent education, the mayor reported.
The city chief executive explained which what differentiates this Iskolar ni MVF program from other scholarship programs is they do not require their
students to get extraordinary or maintain a specific average. He said this is for all people in Laoag, especially the poor, to have education.
Chevylle Farinas, on the other hand, expressed the woman gratitude to teachers in addition to the students as they serve as ideas to continue to help
others in addition to empower the people.
